In Vallejo the story of Victorian architecture was very dominated by the American Industrial Revolution and the fact that Vallejo was a boom town. Most of the buildings we now have in Historic Vallejo were built after 1880.
Some of the wealthiest people in California lived here during those years and they built homes to show off their status. Most of these Victorian mansions can be found in the Architectural Heritage district.
Not to be out done, local merchants and shop owners built Victorian homes which were just as elaborate, even though they were much smaller. These homes can be found in the Saint Vincent’s Historic District.
If you have a part of the Vallejo Victorian story you want to share, I look forward to hearing about it in the comments section. I read every comment and I hope to hear from you there.
